Screen Acting for Teens

Build confidence on camera.

Fun, practical screen acting classes for students in Years 7–12. Every week teens work on scenes from real films and TV shows, step in front of the camera and watch their work back, in small groups with students their own age. Taught by working actors at the studio founded by Matt Levett (A Place to Call Home, Wolf Creek). Saturday mornings in Ultimo, starting Saturday February 6th, 2027.

Students performing in an on-camera screen acting class at The Actors Workout Sydney

Screen Acting for Teens is for students in Years 7 to 12 who love film and TV and want to have a go in front of the camera. Classes are small, split by school year, and taught by working actors who know how to bring out the best in young people.

Each week students work on scenes from real films and TV shows, shoot them on camera and watch them back together. Along the way they build skills that help everywhere else too: confidence, speaking up, listening, working as a team and backing themselves.

Classes run on Saturday mornings, with Years 7–9 and Years 10–12 at the same time in separate studios. Term 1 starts Saturday February 6th.

For Parents

MORE THAN ACTING
Screen acting builds confidence, communication and presentation skills that carry into the classroom, job interviews and everyday life.
SMALL GROUPS
Classes are kept small, so every student gets plenty of turns on camera and individual feedback every week.
SPLIT BY SCHOOL YEAR
Years 7–9 and Years 10–12 train separately, so the scenes and the room suit each age group.
SAFE AND SUPPORTED
Every coach and guest who works with our teen classes holds a current NSW Working With Children Check.
EASY TO GET TO
Level 3, 22–36 Mountain Street, Ultimo, a 12-minute walk from Central Station and 200 metres from Broadway Shopping Centre. On Saturdays both age groups start and finish together, so siblings share one drop-off and pick-up.
LEARNING FROM WORKING ACTORS
Classes are taught by actors who work in film and TV, so students learn how it's really done on set and in auditions.

Who Is This For?

Any student in Years 7–12 who's curious about acting. No experience is needed. We'll meet every student at the level they're at.

It suits the drama lover who wants to try screen acting, the student who's always making videos with friends, the quieter teen who'd like more confidence, and senior students thinking about acting after school.

Small Classes

Each class is kept small, so every student gets plenty of time on camera and real feedback every week.

Places are booked in the order they come in. Once a group is full, we'll start a waiting list.

Love the First Class or Your Money Back

Not sure if it's for them? Come along to the first class. If it's not for them, just let us know within 24 hours of the first class and we'll refund the term in full.

How It Works

Questions

My child has never acted before. Is that okay?

Absolutely. Most students start as complete beginners. Students who already do drama at school are welcome too, and everyone is taught at the level they’re at.

My child is quite shy. Will they be put on the spot?

No. Lots of students start out shy, and building confidence is a big part of what we do. Everyone works at their own pace, and nobody is pushed further than they’re ready to go.

Who teaches the classes?

Working actors who also coach young people. Every coach and guest holds a current NSW Working With Children Check.

How big are the groups, and are ages mixed?

Each group has a maximum of 12 students. Years 7–9 and Years 10–12 are taught separately, in their own studios.

Is my child supervised the whole time?

Yes. Coaches are with students for the full class, 10am to 1pm, including the break. Please drop off and collect on time. In the welcome form you can tell us who’s allowed to collect your child, or if they’ll travel on their own.

What happens to the footage of my child?

Filming is part of the training, and the footage is for teaching only. It’s never shared publicly. We only use photos or clips for promotion if you agree to it in the welcome form.

Can I watch a class?

Classes are just for students, so they can relax and try new things without an audience. If we hold a special showing, we’ll invite parents along.

What if they don’t enjoy it?

Every new student is covered by our First Class Guarantee. If it’s not for them, let us know within 24 hours of their first class and we’ll refund the term fee in full.

What happens if they miss a week?

We can’t refund or credit missed classes. If you know they’ll be away, let us know and we’ll send the scene so they can keep up.

What should they bring?

A water bottle, a snack for the break, and comfortable clothes. Scripts are sent out before class. Phones are put away during class, and in an emergency you can reach your child through us on 0478 221 751.

Can they join after Term 1?

Yes, if there’s room. Each term has its own focus, so students can start at the beginning of any term.

What about Year 12 and the HSC?

Year 12 students can pause for Terms 3 and 4 and come back after their exams.

Terms and Conditions

Screen Acting for Teens · The Actors Workout

These terms apply to every student enrolled in Screen Acting for Teens. By booking, the parent or guardian agrees to them on the student’s behalf.

1. Enrolment

Places are first come, first served, and a place is secured once you’ve booked and paid online. If a class is full, email us and we’ll add your child to the waiting list and let you know if a spot opens up.

2. Fees and payment

Fees are $540 per term, including GST, paid in full by card at the time of booking.

3. First Class Guarantee and refunds

  • First Class Guarantee: if your child doesn’t wish to continue after their first class, email us at info@theactorsworkout.com.au within 24 hours of the end of that class and we’ll refund the term fee in full. The guarantee applies once per student.
  • After that: fees are non-refundable, except where a student can’t continue because of illness or injury (with a medical certificate). In that case we’ll credit the remaining classes to a future term.

4. Missed classes

Places are held for the whole term, so we can’t offer refunds or credits for missed classes. Let us know if your child can’t make it and we’ll send through the scene they’re working on. If they’re unwell for more than two weeks, get in touch and we’ll work something out.

5. Changes and cancellations by the studio

Each group needs a minimum number of students to run. If a group doesn’t reach it, we may combine the two groups or cancel the term, in which case you’ll receive a full refund. If we need to cancel a class (for example, because of illness or circumstances outside our control), we’ll run a make-up class or credit that class to a future term. Coaches may change from time to time.

6. Filming and footage

Filming is part of the training, and students are filmed in every class. At the end of each term, each student receives a copy of one of their filmed scenes. Class footage is used for teaching only and isn’t shared publicly without permission.

7. Photos and video for promotion

We only use photos or clips of a student on our website or social media if their parent or guardian has given promotion consent in our welcome form. You can withdraw that consent at any time by emailing us, and it won’t affect your child’s place.

8. Drop-off, pick-up and supervision

Students are supervised during class time only (10:00am to 1:00pm). Please drop off no earlier than 10 minutes before class and pick up on time. Students will only be released to a parent, guardian or someone you’ve told us about in writing, unless you’ve told us they travel on their own. Let us know in writing if anything changes.

9. Health, safety and wellbeing

Please tell us about any medical conditions, allergies, medication or support needs in the welcome form, and keep us updated if anything changes. Every coach and guest who works with our teen classes holds a current NSW Working With Children Check. In an emergency, we’ll contact you first and, if needed, call emergency services.

10. Phones

Phones are put away during class so everyone can focus. In an emergency, you can reach your child through us on 0478 221 751.

11. Behaviour

We want every student to feel safe and supported. Students are expected to treat each other, coaches and the studio with respect. If a student’s behaviour affects the safety or learning of others, we’ll talk with the parent or guardian first. In serious cases we may withdraw the student’s place, without a refund.

12. Privacy

We collect the information you give us to run the classes and keep students safe. It’s stored securely, only shared with your child’s coach where needed, and never sold or given to anyone else.
